Handouts to Big Oil

Project On Government Oversight (POGO)
This is shocking, Daisy: A new POGO report shows that the federal government is giving Big Oil enormous handouts on leases for oil drilling, cheating American taxpayers out of a fair deal.
Public land belongs to the public. When it’s leased to oil companies, the public should benefit. But instead, the federal government has sold off vast tracts of public land at rock-bottom prices. In fact, the average price paid in each Gulf of Mexico auction since 1983 has declined an astonishing 95.7%, from $9,068 to just $391 per acre!
Our government should work for us, not just for special interests like Big Oil. That’s why POGO is working to hold the government accountable, and we need 10,000 engaged citizens like you to stand with us. Add your name to tell the administration: Make Big Oil pay its fair share!
For decades and across administrations, our government has bent over backward to serve the interests of Big Oil. The Interior Department auctions off our public lands at rock-bottom prices, allowing Big Oil to stuff its pockets with profits while costing taxpayers BILLIONS in lost royalties.
We can’t afford to let the government serve corporations at the expense of American taxpayers. POGO is working overtime for an open and honest government, but we need you to join the fight.
Thanks for speaking out.
