09 June 18 It's Live on the HomePage Now:   Reader Supported News WE ARE ASKING FOR A 'FAIR SHAKE' ON DONATIONS: We never believed that all the readers would donate all the time, nor do we expect it. We absolutely understand that extenuating circumstances happen. But less than 1% of the subscribers donating? That's not right or fair. We have no choice but to stand up and protest that. RSN was in fact built entirely with public funding. It's worth preserving. Give us a hand once in a while. / Marc Ash, Founder Reader Supported News Sure, I'll make a donation! Jane Mayer | One Koch Brother Forces the Other Out of the Family Business  Jane Mayer, The New Yorker Mayer writes: "The retirement of David Koch from Koch Industries will make it easier to see more clearly what has been true from the start: Charles and David Koch, who came to be known as 'the Koch brothers,' were equals in bloodlines and in wealth, but Charles has always been the...

Compelling, ambitious reads you can’t afford to miss. For Kevin Sullivan, reporting in Mexico feels like a homecoming. He and his wife, Mary Jordan, spent five years there as foreign correspondents and shared a 2003 Pulitzer Prize for stories about the country's criminal justice system. Now the couple, who also reported from Tokyo and London during their 14 years abroad, live in Washington, where Sullivan is a senior correspondent covering national and international affairs. Sullivan returned to Mexico to write about families that have been deported with children who are U.S. citizens. "They have all these programs to welcome the deportees back, said Sullivan, which is how he found Lourdes "Lulu" Quintana-Salazar. The 16-year-old, who wants to become a doctor, grew up in Ann Arbor, Mich., and now finds herself in Toluca, about an hour west of Mexico City, in a country completely unfamiliar to her. "There are thousands of kids like Lulu ...

Compelling, ambitious reads you can’t afford to miss. As the #MeToo movement revived interest in sexual misconduct allegations against President Trump, national enterprise reporter Eli Saslow started thinking about the 19 accusers. He wondered, he said, "what the experience is like for one of the 19." Saslow — who won a 2014 Pulitzer Prize for an intimate and deeply reported series about food stamps — compiled short bios of each woman and watched interviews with them. He was most intrigued by Rachel Crooks, who claimed Trump began kissing her without her consent beside an elevator in Trump Tower in 2006. At the time, she was 22, and he was 59.  "Rachel very quickly stood out," Saslow said, because she lived in a part of Ohio that had voted overwhelmingly for Trump. "There was just a lot more tension in her life and daily experience" than many of the president's other accusers. Not everyone in Crooks's own f...
