Bill McKibben | 3 Strategies to Get to a Fossil-Free America

Image
Let's work together and make this happen!  28 January 18 It's Live on the HomePage Now:   Reader Supported News IT’S BEEN A PRETTY BAD MONTH FOR LARGER DONATIONS - The larger donations have been scarce this month. We have had some and those were greatly appreciated, but overall not very many. While January is never as good as December, it has always been quite a bit better than we are seeing right now. It’s going to be a bad month for funding. Right now we are just trying to keep it close. We could use a leg up. / Marc Ash, Founder Reader Supported News Sure, I'll make a donation! FOCUS: Bill McKibben | 3 Strategies to Get to a Fossil-Free America  Bill McKibben, The Nation   McKibben writes: "When the next phase of the US climate movement launches with a nationally streamed rally at the end of the month, the wound-licking will be over."   READ MORE 3 Strategies to Get to a Fossil-Free America By Bill McKibben, The Nation 28 January 18 ...

Expelling the infection

Image
Defeat is inevitable. Everybody knows it, even Trump Washington’s legal immune system is about to expel an infection from the body politic LUCIAN K. TRUSCOTT IV 01.27.2018 I remember the day I first realized that Richard Nixon was doomed and one way or another would be removed from office. It was deep in the winter of 1974, I had been working for months on my own little corner of the Watergate story, and I was on Capitol Hill to meet one of the deputy counsels on the Senate Watergate Committee. I had been given an address on Capitol Hill for their offices, and when I arrived there I found myself standing outside an old movie theater. I was confused. This was supposed to be the office of the  Senate Watergate Committee ! I stopped somebody on the street and showed them my notebook where I had written down the address and asked them if I was in the right place. Yes, the passerby said. You’re at the right place. They’re right in there. I entered through the theater...

Reshaping the courts

Image
President Trump is trying to reshape the federal judiciary around his far-right dogma – and alarmingly, he's succeeding. As a member of the Judiciary Committee, every month I see unqualified and extreme nominees committed to reversing decades of critically important progress recognizing and protecting reproductive rights, LGBT rights, and more. We've seen nominees who've spewed hateful rhetoric. Nominees who can't answer basic questions about the law. Nominees rated "not qualified" by the American Bar Association. They all have one thing in common: an extremist ideology that threatens the rights of individual Americans. And many now have lifetime appointments, where they will rule on issues from women's rights to gerrymandering. I'm doing everything I can to stop these extreme appointees. We won't win every fight, but we can't afford to get discouraged. We're strongest when we stand united, and that's why I want to he...

William Saletan | The Obstruction Case Is Getting Solid

Image
28 January 18 It's Live on the HomePage Now:   Reader Supported News WE BADLY NEED A FEW HEROES - Really trying to keep the January fundraiser as close as possible. We could really use a boost from anyone who can help. Who can donate? / Marc Ash, Founder Reader Supported News Sure, I'll make a donation! FOCUS: William Saletan | The Obstruction Case Is Getting Solid    William Saletan, Slate   Saletan writes: "President Trump tried to fire special counsel Robert Mueller. That fact, reported Thursday night by the New York Times and confirmed by sources for the Washington Post and other papers, shreds the assurances from Republican lawmakers that Trump would never attempt such a thing. It also bolsters key elements of the case for impeachment."   READ MORE Contribute to RSN Become a Fan of RSN on  Facebook  and  Twitter Update My Monthly Donation
