Bhima Koregoan – The Latest Battlefield Of Dalit Resistance

Dear Friend,

Dalits are rising up in many parts of India. Millennia old shackles are being broken and the oppressed classes of India are marching in unison in streets of India. It all started with the attack on Dalits who were celebrating the historic victory of a Dalit army on their oppressors. Dr. Goldy M George writes, "the gruesome attack on unarmed people signifies the fear and unwillingness of dominant caste Hindus even to imagine the reduction of the power of caste Hindus and some disturbance in the social order under the Hindutva mechanics. Instead of accepting the fact that Brahimincal order has infact enslaved each other under the ambit of caste, they opted to denounce those who assembled in Koregoan as anti-national. Had Babasaheb Ambedkar been alive today, he would have been another of those anti-nationals while the RSS-BJP state would not have a second thought to send him to prison."

Also more stories from around the world.

The gruesome attack on unarmed people signifies the fear and unwillingness of dominant caste Hindus even to imagine the reduction of the power of caste Hindus and some disturbance in the social order under the Hindutva mechanics. Instead of accepting the fact that Brahimincal order has infact enslaved each other under the ambit of caste, they opted to denounce those who assembled in Koregoan as anti-national. Dalit Resistance And Violence
by Red Panther

In one of his polemical editorial article Ambedkar in 1940 and nails it on the head saying: If the means of non-violence would suffice to attain an end, then there should be no need to resort to brute force. However, should non-violent means not be sufficient to achieve an end, and if the end would suffer on this account, then only a fool would insist that no other means but non-violence should be adopted…it would indeed be a sin to use brute force as a means to do injustice to someone, but there would be nothing sinful about using brute force to put an end to brute force.

Who Will Pay The $250+ Billion Reconstruction Cost In Syria?
by Eric Zuesse

The United States Government says that Syria’s Government caused the U.N.-estimated “at least $250 billion” cost to restore Syria from the destruction that Syria’s war produced, and so Syria’s Government should pay those reconstruction costs.

What’s Behind the ‘Disappearance’ Of 420,000 Palestinians in Lebanon?
by Franklin Lamb

The first ever official census of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon was finally released on 12/21/2017 in Beirut. The village by village and camp by camp survey by 500 specialists found that only 174,422 Palestinian refugees are living these days in the country. Counted were al Palestinians living in the 12 official camps and 156 informal settlements known as ‘gatherings’ and those living outside these areas across Lebanon. This figure is shockingly lower than the previous estimate of 469,331 Palestinians by UNWRA and as many as 600,00 by others for political purposes.

President Trump And Jerusalem
by K P Fabian

President Trump’s decision announced on 6th December 2017 to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to order the transfer of US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem reminds one of the 1917 Balfour Declaration that paved the way for the establishment of the State of Israel

How Does One Process That?
by Richard Oxman

What I don’t understand, though, is how U.S. citizens don’t seem to get that their country (our country, I should say) commits atrocities regularly these days which — at Nuremberg — many people were executed for; I’m open to spelling out which ones to readers, upon request. I also have a very hard time dealing with the fact that our desecration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is not at least the equivalent of the Nazi abominations in the vast majority of American minds.

Disabled Left With ‘Nir-Aadhaar’
by Sheshu Babu

One more angle of introspecting aadhar is the impact on disabled persons, especially those who have problems with their fingers or eyes or both. While the poor are facing starvation deaths due to non- availability of ration, disabled face problems even at the time of registration.

The Madrasa Myth
by Moin Qazi

What we should attempt is to make new madrasas as well as universities to be patterned on ancient Samarkand or Bokhara. Instead of solely stressing on madrasa modernisation, let us take madrasas centuries back in history to their glorious traditions of the Islamic Golden Age. That may be more successful in winning hearts and minds of the custodians of madrasas.

Fandom And Misogyny
by Gokul Balu

Recently an incident caught the headline for all the wrong reasons and it was regarding how a Malayalam film actress is being constantly harassed on social media by self-proclaimed fans of a superstar of the same industry for speaking her mind. What she spoke was widely regarded as opinion aimed at disrespecting the star and the fandom went crazy. The incident happened during the IFFK film festival last year and the actress was addressing an open forum which was on role & portrayal of women in the films
