CC is Back Up With An Exceptional Series on Shankar Guha Niyogi

Dear Friends,

Good News!

Countercurrents.org is back up.

We are re-launching with an exceptional series.

We are serialising the memoirs of Dr Punyabrata Gun, a comrade of Shankar Guha Niyogi. We believe that this memori by Dr Gun has a great historical importance. It is the memories of a comrade who saw from close quarters one of the greatest revolutionary figures that independent India has seen. The first chapter is here. It's aptly titled "Niyogi And His Mission".

Many non-Indian readers and many in India too may not be aware of the exceptional contributions of Niyogi. I hope this series will be an eye opener.

In Solidarity

The Big Mac And The Crocodile

Dear Friend, 2017 will be remembered as the year that the so-called ‘peace process’, at least in its American formulation, has ended. And with its demise, a political framework that has served as the foundation for US foreign policy in the Middle East has also collapsed. The Palestinian leadership and its Arab and international allies will now embark on a new year with the difficult task of drumming up a whole new political formula that does not include the United States. Cyril Ramaphosa, the next President of South Africa, was the man behind the entry of international fast food behemoth McDonalds into the country, earning him the sobriquet “The Big Mac”. Zimbabwe’s new President Mnangagwa bears the nickname “The Crocodile” from his days as head of Robert Mugabe’s secret police for, like his namesake, coming out of nowhere to suddenly snatch his victims, never to be seen again Also more stories from around the world.  If you don't mind, and if you think the conten...

Must Reads: An alleged bribe in an Alabama Senate race and an alleged conspiracy to assassinate Martin Luther King Jr.

Image
Compelling, ambitious reads you can’t afford to miss. For a long time, investigative reporter Shawn Boburg wasn't sure he'd be able to recount an effort by two Roy Moore supporters to discredit Leigh Corfman, a woman who had accused the Alabama Senate candidate of sexual misconduct. Eddie Sexton, who briefly served as Corfman's attorney, said the two men offered him $10,000 to say he didn't believe her. Sexton had evidence to back up his claims, including text messages and recordings of his conversations with the men. But it was complicated by the fact that they were Sexton's clients in a separate legal case, and the attorney was worried that he could be putting his license to practice law at risk by exposing an alleged bribe.  "He wasn't sure he wanted a story at first," said Boburg, who came to The Post in 2015 after exposing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's "Bridgegate" scandal. "He ignored my phones calls ...
