Trump sets the Middle East on fire

Dear Friend,

By recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel President Trump has thrown the Middle East into a cauldron of fire.

A 64-year old widow, Premani Kunwar, died of hunger and exhaustion on 1 December in Danda Block of Garhwa district (Jharkhand). Contrary to some media reports, there was no money in Premani’s bank account when she died. Two months earlier, the Aadhaar-based payment system had redirected her pension money to a different account, without her knowledge. She was also denied her grain entitlement inAugust and November.

US Recognition Of Jerusalem As Capital Of Israel-A New Phase In Global Politics
by Dr Vivek Kumar Srivastava

In a major policy shift US President Donald Trump has decided to recognize the Jerusalem as capital of Israel and has directed the official to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem which in his opinion the previous Presidents had promised but did not deliver.

What Trump Is Doing In Jerusalem And Why He Is Doing It
by John Chuckman

I can only imagine what Trump’s reaction would be if a large group of Mexican migrants squatted on his beloved Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Rather than support them in their claim, he would most certainly strap on his six-shooter and help drive them off, undoubtedly driving them all the way to the Mexican border, shouting wildly the whole time.

Recognising Jerusalem: Unilateralism, International Law, And The Trump White House
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

What ramifications and when?  The recognition of Jerusalem as the natural capital for the State of Israel by US President Donald J. Trump was promised by the buffoonish steward of the empire.  Delivering on it was not necessarily expected – US presidents, keen on courting pro-Israeli groups, had been promising to do so for years.

The Seneca Cliff Explained: A Three Dimensional Collapse Overview Model
by Geoffrey Chia

The Limits to Growth was published in 1972 by a group of world class scientists using the best mathematical computer modelling available at the time. It projected the future collapse of global industrial civilisation in the 21st century if humanity did not curb its population, consumption and pollution. It was pilloried by many “infinite growth on a finite planet” economists over the decades. However, updated data inputs and modern computer modelling in recent years (particularly by Dr Graham Turner of the CSIRO in 2008 and 2014) showed that we are in reality closely tracking the standard model of the LtG, with industrial collapse and mass die-off due sooner rather than later. The future is now.

The End Of American Exceptionalism
by David Anderson

The battle for the planet has now become a battle between two systems of human thought and governance; one based on the vestiges of Western Neo-Liberalism and the other based on a restating of Marxist Socialism. The implications are profound. One system offers the possibility of the continuation of the human species on this planet, the other negates that possibility. This essay will attempt to explain the systemic differences between the two and the danger to human civilization of the one.

What Would Charles Darwin Say Today?
by Gunther Ostermann

This is my creation, and I offer it for free, if there are people with the means and ability to make it available to the world, to empower people, with this slogan…      I – LOVE – OUR – PLANET – THE ONLY ONE – WE HAVE …I – love – our – planet,      is self explanatory without words. The only one we have , to suit a countries language.

Terrorism And Islam: Correlation Is Not Causation
by Nauman Sadiq

The root factors that have mainly been responsible for spawning militancy and terrorism anywhere in the world are not religion or ideology of militants but socio-economics, ethnic diversity, marginalization of disenfranchised ethno-linguistic and ethno-religious groups and the ensuing conflicts; socio-cultural backwardness of the affected regions, and the weak central control of the impoverished developing states over their territory, which is often exacerbated by deliberate training and arming of certain militant groups that were used at some point of time in history as proxies by their regional and global patrons.

The Tyranny Of The Development Lexicon
by Moin Qazi

Paper is substituted for action. Conferences are substituted for work. Perquisites are substituted for truly earned rewards — and there are no penalties for corruption, laziness and divisive rabble-rousing. Adept at diplomacy and wordplay, they obscure the real concerns behind a fog of jargon and euphemism No wonder the villages distrust all these urbanised gentry who jeep themselves into the village, complete with polyester pants and thermos flasks of boiled water, exhorting them to produce fewer babies and more food at exploitive prices, for the benefit of their urban brethren. They deliver these messages to the village, and hastily jeep their way back to their urban environment. It inevitably means they shy away from campaigning and solidarity-based activity.

36 Years Apart: Two Deaths, One In Matter, The Other In Spirit
by Nivedita Dwivedi

36 years separate the two incidents, both of which can be said to be among the landmark moments in the history of India. 6th December, every year, marks the anniversary of both of them. While on the one hand, it commemorates the death anniversary of the one who nurtured to life the Constitution that is the fountainhead of this nation, on the other hand, it also commemorates another death anniversary, of the spirit of the very same Constitution.

A Community’s Demand For Exclusion From SC List
by Vidya Bhushan Rawat

I was quite surprised when I saw the banner for demanding exclusion of Devendrakula Vellalar from the Scheduled Caste list because most of the time the communities have been demanding their name for SC list which they think better because the huge number of communities in the BC list. I have not only travelled Tamilnadu but also seen work of Dr Krishnaswamy in the early 1990s.

Twilight Of The Buddha: Tantra As It Had Risen Against Brahminism
by Atindriyo Chakraborty

Side by side with all these, multiple Nath-Pantha myths that had begun evolving before the Shaivite Nath order was absorbed in entirety by caste-Hindu power-brokers reveal a continuity of this cultural resistance through poetry and music. It further establishes the role of Tantra within the folds of the anti-Brahminical ‘bhakti’ movements of the subcontinent. The resistances have since continued. While dealing with the history of Bengal, one must never forget this, that, in the eighteenth century, the Fakirs of Bengal were one of the first communities to rise in staunch revolt against the oppressive colonial forces.

Chennai Floods And The Limits Of Compassion
by Kaushik Tekur

While most of the people were celebrating the Humanitarian zeal of the Chennai-ites, the sighs of manual scavengers brought from various other parts of Tamil Nadu found very few considerate ears. Volunteerism refused to provide a helping hand to the Dalits who were, thanks to our moral and material filth, worst hit. There were several other communities that were denied Chennai’s compassion. The imigrant labourers who lived on the periphery of the city and transgenders were a few of the “unfortunate” ones. This denial of help was no accident. It was a conscious and insensitive choice.

The Political “Leeches” of Kashmir!
by Mohammad Ashraf

Some politicians have been virtually acting as leeches, stuck to the body of “Kashmir”, sucking every drop of its blood and attaching to it again and again even when thrown away!

Kashmir: Buying Arts To Bury Resistance
by Zaahid Mushtaq

The colonized can’t stay away from objects of art in a colonizer-controlled society. To counter art he has to reinvent and reinvigorate counter-culture which must be rooted in its history of resistance. New objects of art representing resistance, sacrifices and distinctiveness of the native oppressed have to be concretized, affirmed and transmitted to a new generation. Arts representing defiance in its spirit and revolution in its method are as important for the oppressed as are foot soldiers for the colonizer.

Conversion
by Dr A V Koshy

I am the son of a ‘criminal’ who died on the tree.
I am also the son of a ‘bitch’
I am the son of a Pulaya woman
that Parayan you wanted to ditch
I am crucified
I am resurrected
